Set up a PDF template

Before you begin building out any document processes on Anvil, we highly recommend setting up document templates first. Well-templatized documents will ultimately save you downstream work.

They can be reused with many of Anvil’s products, such as Etch e-signatures, Workflows, or the PDF Fill endpoint.

Getting started

Before you start templatizing your document, make sure your document is a supported file type (.pdf or .docx) and hasn’t been prefilled.

Anvil Document AI is enabled by default and helps you identify and correctly label fields. It can be particularly useful for documents that do not have pre-existing fillable fields. Checking one little box could potentially help you save a lot of time.

If you upload non-fillable documents without Anvil Document AI, our system will not be able to detect fields. In this case, you’ll need to manually draw fields. For more information about how our system detects PDF fields without Anvil Document AI, please see this article.
